About

Southern Architect: The Suburban Home is a blog dedicated to the analysis of the mid-century suburban home in North Carolina and the salient messages they bestow. Through the lens of North Carolina’s AIA Chapter publication, Southern Architect, this blog serves as a digital archive of the residential works of many architects practicing in North Carolina in the mid 20th century. Exploring both the traditional and modern residential projects, this collection of images, articles, and annotations is offered to further understand the design decisions of post-World War II architects and the subtle distinctions of the mid-century suburban home.
